Capacity

We can accommodate up to 12 guests in our 6 suites:

  • 2 suites in our main house, each with a bathroom with a shower.
  • 2 suites in the Annex, each with a bathroom with a shower.
  • 2 suites in the cottage, each with a bathroom with a shower.

All suites have a comfortable king-size bed that can be re-arranged into a 2 single bed configuration. 100% Egyptian cotton linen, towels, TV, Wi-Fi, table, chairs and a Coffee/Tea tray with a kettle. Suites also have a mini kitchenette with a microwave, bar fridge and basic cutlery, crockery and glasses.

We now have solar power! Never let load shedding be a problem at your home away from home!

BAOBAB SUITE

Situated in the main house, this comfortable and private suite has a private bathroom with a shower. The Baobab suite overlooks the front garden and is situated next to the formal lounge/reading room. It further features a mini fridge, sink, microwave and coffee/tea facility.

IRIS SUITE

The Iris suite is situated within the Cottage with a private external entrance from the courtyard and casual lounge room room. The suite is comfortable with its own private bathroom with a shower. It further features a microwave, mini fridge, coffee/tea facility and small sink.

ROSEMARIE SUITE

The Rosemarie Suite is a comfortable suite with a bathroom with a shower in the Annex. It has its own external entrance from the private courtyard which is close to the casual lounge room. The suite can be combined (lockable inter-connecting door) with the adjacent Lavender Suite with its own kitchen making it ideal for family accommodation.

MARULA SUITE

Situated in the main house, this comfortable and private suite has a private bathroom with a shower. The Marula suite overlooks the inner courtyard. The Reception also overlooks the inner courtyard and is situated in an open space between the Marula and Baobab suites.

ACACIA SUITE

The Acacia suite is situated within the Cottage with a private external entrance from the courtyard and casual lounge room. The suite is comfortable with its own private bathroom with a shower. It further features a microwave, mini fridge, coffee/tea facility and small sink.

LAVENDER SUITE

A comfortable suite with a bathroom with a shower, fully equipped kitchen situated in the Annex. It has its own external entrance in the private courtyard which is close to the casual lounge room. The suite can be combined (lockable inter-connecting door) with the adjacent Rosemarie Suite making it ideal for family accommodation.

“After founding Charlie’s Spot, in nearby Norwood and building a solid reputation based on our comfortable accommodation and good service, the time for expansion arrived. We started looking for a suitable property and stumbled across Charlie’s Spot – The Gardens (formerly known as Uxolo Lodge), which was on the market because the owners wanted to relocate overseas to be with their children. Charlie’s Spot – The Gardens was precisely what I was looking for; comfortable accommodation, homely atmosphere in a heritage protected old house with lots of character and located close the famous restaurant strip in Grant Avenue.

It was clear that the Lodge suffered under Covid-19, but the potential was too good to let it pass. The AA Award, TripAdvisor 5-star grading and guest reviews from the many overseas and local guests convinced me that that this was the ideal location for a 2nd Charlie’s Spot, where we will continue to build on the good reputation that we have already achieved.

Our vision is to revive this little gem to its former glory, adding to it our commitment to solid, friendly service, offering comfortable and homely accommodation in a peaceful and historical environment.”

Our Neighbourhood

The quiet, tee-lined streets of The Gardens, creates a welcoming and peaceful neighbourhood next to the cosmopolitan suburb of Norwood. The area has a rich mixture of cultures, with Jewish, Muslim, Asian and African people integrated into a colourful and vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere. A mere 15 minute walk from Charlie’s Spot – The Gardens, you’ll find one of Johannesburg’s favourite dining areas, the famous Grant Avenue restaurant strip, where you’ll find a superb selection of ethnic cuisine and the boutiques, cafés and diners at tables on the sidewalks, reflect the bohemian nature of the area.
